Saturday 8th March 2010 Mid Sussex Division Six

Jarvis Brook II 3 Ardingly II 1

Striker Craig Harman was taken by the first eleven 24 hrs before kick off, Stacey Vinall too was elevated to the first team whilst Dan Wright was away on personal business and not available. “ I was gutted for Craig he has been playing really well for us recently and been knocking in goals, but he deserved his call up to the firsts” Ian Black said as he arrived fit and raring to go a full one and three quarter hours before kick off. “I was desperate to win today, after being two up we lost four goals to two at Ardingly back in early November. I hoped a few of the players that played today felt the hurt and wanted it as much as me” he said as he stretched loose before the match.

The Brook certainly started off well and their forty five minutes of football certainly gave them the reason to be cheerful.

A strange formation led to Andrew Cooper and Paul Neale in front of the back four. It was hoped this would allow Paul Wilkins, Dave Scarlett, Adam Short and Nathan Youlton to roam as they saw fit. All four of these players flitted around their opponents area whilst Cooper and Neale swept up, linked and pushed the Brook forward. A couple of chances went begging, down to some good Ardingly goalkeeping before the Brook struck on twenty five minutes.

Nathan Youlton and Adam Short combined well and stretched the Ardingly defence allowing Paul Wilkins, back from his south coast gallivanting, to cut in and drive the ball home. One of Wilkins travel partner Dave Scarlett began some good work now on the right as the Brook Midfield began to probe. From one of these probings Scarlett drove a low ball into the penalty where it evaded everyone and ended up in the far corner.

Paul Neale and Ian Black Jarvis Brook reserves management duo were determined to exorcise the demons “ A lot of the guys who lost at Ardingly were here today, we wanted to remind them how that hurt and how better we are now” they both agreed as they re-appeared for the second half.

On fifty minutes the Brook increased their lead again Scarlett, This time on the right produced a clinical finish. However for the rest of the second half Jarvis Brook huffed and puffed. Adam Short had a couple of excellent chances one of which rattled the bar, Andrew Cooper too created an excellent shooting opportunity that scraped a post.

Cameron Brown, voted man of the match this week had an excellent game. “ When he had to be he was stronger than he has been before not allowing his opponent a chance to control or turn.

Ardingly scored a consolation with ten minutes to go as scrappy play all round allowed their striker a chance, the only way to beat keeper Black was a scuffed shot that the Brook keeper got a hand too but could not keep out.

“ We enjoyed the win but we should have played better in the second half” Paul Neale stated in the lounge.

Ian Black was a touch scathing about some of the substances used by the younger generation when he hissed. “ I cannot believe we had pink shower gel being used willy nilly in there”. Dave Scarlett and Paul Wilkins were heard to express how wonderful the pink indulgence gel smelt.

Next week the Brook reserves are away to Lindfield, another team them would like to turn the tables on after being beaten them back in October
